Honor Band Membership Fee

All Honor Band members will be charged a $60 participation fee - due at the first rehearsal. This fee covers the cost of honor band music, various expenses, supplies, paying our guest conductors and their housing and travel expenses. Ticket sales help cover the cost of using the Cal Poly PAC and will be $12 per ticket. The local band directors do not get paid for participating in this event.  Concert Music will be available to download for free. There will be NO CDs for the purchase this year.

Rehearsal Dates, Places and Times

As a member of the Junior Honor Band, you will be expected to learn the music as quickly as possible, to attend the scheduled rehearsals and to perform in the concert. All rehearsals are required, however valid excuses such as illness or a family emergency will not preclude you from participating in the concert.  Please inform your director or your honor band chair people as soon as possible should one of these excuses prevent you from attending. The Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday rehearsals during the week of the concert are MANDATORY to attend.  Any student who, for ANY reason, misses all or part of one of these rehearsals will be removed from the Honor Band and will not perform at the Honor Band concert.

Please note: Beginning times reflect down beat times.  Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure plenty of time to set up your instrument.

REQUIRED REHEARSAL! IMPORTANT: NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME! This may also be over a HOLIDAY WEEKEND for many schools.  Please plan accordingly.

    * These dates are mandatory to attend.  Students will be responsible for their own lunch on the Tuesday Rehearsal at Cal Poly.  Students may bring a bagged lunch or money to purchase food at the food court.  Lunch on Wednesday will be determined by the individual directors.

Junior and Senior Honor Band Concert Information

Ticket cost is $12 per person. Tickets will be available on a presale order form, at rehearsals and at the door. Parking is now free with your paid ticket stub.  Pre-ordered tickets will be handed out to students and parents the week before the concert and during the concert week.

 

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!  We need 2 parent volunteers to help us take tickets and sell tickets at the door on the concert evening.  Your time commitment would be from 5:45 pm – approximately 7:15 pm and you would receive a complimentary ticket to the concert for your service.  Please contact Thanh Kirby at tkbach@gmail.com if you are able to assist us in this matter.

The Honor Bands Concert is a very special occasion and you are expected to dress appropriately. You represent the finest players in the county.

Attire for the concert is BLACK (or very dark Navy Blue) and White:
BOYS - White collared dress shirt (tucked in) with a tie. If you own a suit or a sport coat you may wear it if you like.

GIRLS - Black dress (no spaghetti straps, no low-cut necklines, no slits above the knees.) OR white dressy blouse or top (no spaghetti straps or low-cut necklines) and a black skirt.

Skirt or dress must cover your knees when you are seated.  Black dress shoes and hose. Flip-Flops are NOT dress shoes.

** Individual or Concert Photos by Will Glover PHOTOGRAPHY **

 

This year, Will Glover will be taking individual and group photos at the concert.  Individual photos can be taken before the concert from 5 – 6pm and/or following the concert in the PAC Lobby.  First come, first serve.

Individual Photos will be taken in the PAC LOBBY an hour before the concert on a first come first serve basis and immediately following the conclusion of the concert for about 45 mins.  The Ensemble (Group) Photo will be taken during the concert after the performances of each group.  Ordering information is available below and will be pass out and available at all rehearsals.

Honor Band Behavior

As the title implies, it is an honor to be part of this group.  You represent the county’s best and so at all times and at all places during the honor band season we expect that your behavior and actions reflect this thought.  This hopefully serves as just a reminder but please know that behavior or actions that are disruptive, disrespectful and un-becoming of an honor band student may also result in your removal from the group. 
Just remember that achievements involving teamwork need 100% effort from ALL of its members.  Anything contrary to this, whether it’s behavior, attendance or practice efforts will hurt the team.
